Everton were originally known as ST. Domingo FC were they formed in 1878. as the team started to attract interest from outside the parish, the name Everton was chosen in 1879 to embrace the outsiders in the team ranks who did not belong to the church. the name Everton was the start of success, when they played the team of ST. peters in Stanley park and won 6-0.
the club has played in various colors - blue and white stripes, black with scarlet sashes, salmon pink shirts with blue shorts, rugby shirts with blue trim and dark blue shorts - before finding the tasteful match of royal blue shirts with white shorts in 1901 - 02.

the team earned there nickname as a tribute to a shop called Mother Nobletts which was close to goodison park and on match days advertised and sold toffees in the ground.
before finally setting at the site known as goodison park, Everton as a team have played in Stanley park, priory road and anfield. in 1892, there was a break from the team. the original members left anfield to set up goodison. the remainder were to call themselves Liverpool (or kopite scum). as a pitch and stadium venue, goodison park has always remained one of the most well kept and popular grounds in the country and was used during the 1966 world cup final because of its outstanding quality.
the Latin motto on the clubs badge is "nil satis nisi optimum" which translates to mean "nothing but the best is good enough". the tower on the crest represents the bridge well tower that was built on Everton brow in 1787, near Stanley park were the boys of ST. Domingo first played football. on each side of the tower there is a decorative laurel wreath. The record attendants was a derby game on the 18th September 1948 when a crowd of 78,299 gathered at goodison park to watch Everton draw with Liverpool 1-1
